UL’s August 8, 2008 letter announced the extension of the effective date for UL 60745 3 and 4 edition from June 1, 2010 to October 31, 2012. In view of this change, the present Industry Review Program (IFR) for UL 60745, 3 edition has been canceled and replaced with a consolidated review under UL 60745, 4 edition with an effective date of October 31, 2012. rdthrdthAll hand-held tools currently certified to UL 745 and UL 60745 3rd editions will be required to comply with UL 60745, 4th edition by October 31, 2012.
UL 60745-1, 3rd edition and all respective published Part 2s that have been established on the basis of the 3rd edition will have the current effective date of June 1, 2010 extended to October 31, 2012. All part 2 documents that will be published on the basis of UL 60745-1, 4th edition will be published with an effective date of October 31, 2012. For those tools having Part 2 requirements established on the basis of the 4th Edition of UL 60745-1 and anticipated to be published by the end of 2008, the effective date will be October 31, 2012 or 3 years from the date of publication, whichever is later.
The Industry File Review (IFR) website will specify separate review programs for UL 60745-1 (part 1) and each associated UL 60745 part 2 documents. This is being conducted in order to improve the management of the IFR process for the part 1 and each individual part 2 standards. Each associated standard will contain a brief summary of the new and revised paragraphs under the “Summary of Requirements” (SOR) located under the IFR database. As such, individual “Action Required Letters” will be sent for the part 1 review as well as for each part 2. The initial “Action Required Letter” will announce the action required for the published part 1 and the majority of the published part 2 standards. For those part 2s anticipated to be published at a later date, separate “Action Required Letters” will be sent accordingly.
UL 60745-2-5, Particular Requirements for Circular Saws was established on the basis of the UL 60745-1, 4th edition. The effective date on the IFR website will be changed to October 31, 2012 and the respective dates under the “File Review Schedule” will be revised accordingly. |
